Join us for a 2-3 hour hike up Main Canyon. Hopefully we will see some wild horses, maybe some bighorn sheep, and a few early flowers. So Please, LEAVE DOGS AT HOME! There is more info from gjhikes.com: [gjhikes.com: Main Canyon](https://www.gjhikes.com/2014/05/main-canyon.html). Conditions may be muddy, so be prepared with appropriate footwear (boots). There may be some small stream crossings, so make sure you are comfortable with that – and hiking poles would be helpful. We will go up a couple of miles and then come back the way we came. ONE REMINDER: IF YOU SHOULD DECIDE TO EITHER TURN AROUND EARLY OR GO AHEAD OF THE GROUP, PLEASE LET A GROUP LEADER KNOW = LEE OR DAVE!
Take I-70 east to the Cameo Exit where there will be a sign for the shooting complex. Drive across the river and train tracks (AND COME TO A COMPLETE STOP IMMEDIATELY AFTER CROSSING THE TRACKS, AS THERE IS A BAD DIP IN THE ROAD). Any car can make it up the graded dirt road, but some clearance would be good if it has just rained. (If you want to carpool, arrange with each other by comments on this meetup event.) Drive to the end of the dirt road – a little over 2 miles – and park in the lot (don’t take any side roads on the way in!) The sign says Coal Canyon Trailhead. There is a restroom.
Bring hiking boots, sunscreen, hat, rain gear just in case, and definitely bring binos and a camera.
