Jefferson Humanists hosts Claudette St. Pierre, President of the [Denver Chapter of Freedom From Religion Foundation](https://ffrfdenver.org/) (FFRF), for her talk, “**Your secular voice: Why it matters more than ever.”**
Secular voices play a crucial role in shaping modern American society, particularly as the religious landscape continues to evolve. Today, with the crumbling of the wall of separation between religion and government, and Project 2025 as the playbook for this current regime, non-religious individuals must speak out. This is our call to action to
safeguard the values that promote democracy, science, rational thought and challenge religious privilege.
We must work together and forge alliances to rebuild the wall and stabilize it for many years to come.
Claudette was raised catholic but eventually as an adult realized she
was an atheist. She believes in the importance of expanding the voice
of secular Americans and that both science and rational thinking are
the bedrock for a better world. To that end, Claudette has been active
in the secular community and joined many of the national groups.
Working with a small group of volunteers to form the Denver Metro
Chapter of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, Claudette has
served on the chapter’s leadership board since its inception in 2013.
Claudette also serves on the board of directors for the [Secular Coalition](https://secular.org/)
[for America](https://secular.org/), an advocacy group based in Washington DC. The SCA fights
for religious freedom, as guaranteed by the First Amendment of the
U.S. Constitution and works to defend the equal rights of nonreligious
Americans. It represents 20 national secular organizations, and
hundreds of local secular communities.
Claudette has interests in politics, science, gardening, reading and
people. You can often find her discussing ideas, experiences, and
knowledge not only with friends and family but with strangers too.
Claudette graduated with her Bachelor of Nursing from California State
University. She has worked as a Pediatric nurse for the past 36 years.
